Have you ever noticed that when you fly in a plane against the spinning of the Earth, your ride is shorter than if you rode with the spinning of the Earth? Of course, this doesn't apply when there's bad weather or other sorts of delays, but that's beside the point. If you were to get into an airplane or spaceship and hover far above the ground and wait twelve hours, you would be on the other side of the Earth without moving an inch! This is because the Earth spun without you, so it was moving but you weren't.
