The Wish Boat Part Three

This is the third part of my story, "The Wish Boat." I'm really sorry that I forgot to post it (thanks for reminding me, Aunt Jo-Ann)!

The freezing cold water seeped into me, making my teeth clatter.
“Kayla please get me out of here!” I shrieked. My new friend disappeared from the railing. I assumed she was going to get help.
I was right. Soon tons of people were against the railing, pointing at me excitedly. My parents were there, reaching out for me. Then the engineer appeared with a life savor attached to a rope. He threw it to me and I caught it. Slowly I was hauled back on deck.
“Oh my Jenny!” Mom whispered as she held me close. I dripped cold water all over her, but she didn’t seem to care. “Let’s get you dried off.” Kayla trailed behind us as we made our way to our room. I was rubbed all over with a soft towel, then wrapped up in warm blankets. I couldn’t seem to stop shivering.
“What happened?” Dad asked.
“I was making a wish, but before I could finish the boat jolted and I fell off,” I explained, my voice shaking.
“I’m so sorry, Jenny,” Kayla sat next to me on my bed. “It was all my fault.”
“No it wasn’t!” I replied reassuringly. Kayla still looked unsure.
“Want to go in the hot tub? It’ll help warm you up!” she suggested. I agreed, quickly changing into my bathing suit and following her to the upper deck where I sank into the hot tub with a sigh.
“Now do you feel better?” Kayla asked. I nodded. “That’s good.” She smiled.
“Now I’ll finish my wish.” I said. I closed my eyes. “I wish…” I began.
Suddenly, a waiter with a steaming bowl of clam chowder tripped and stumbled toward us. I jumped out of the way just in time as the bowl fell into the water where my head had been.
“That was close!” Kayla exclaimed as we pulled ourselves out of the water.
“It was strange…” I told her. “Both times I tried to make a wish, I was almost hurt badly. There’s something about my wish…” My voice trailed off.
“What were you going to wish?” Kayla asked.
“Well, the first time, I was going to wish that I would have a wonderful time on this cruise. The second time I tried to wish that my family and I would always be safe.”
“That means the bad things don’t have to do with the wish you make, but they do have to do with making a wish.”
“Or maybe it was just a coincidence.” I said, looking at her with hope in my eyes.
“I don’t think so. Those kinds of things don’t just happen.” Kayla replied.
